Beautiful Governor's Island is a unique and special gated community surrounded by water. This is Lake Norman's only true island.  Originally this island was to be flooded when Duke was forming the man made lake, but a mistake was made and now the saved land is an island with only a bridge to get to the mainland of other parts of Lake Norman and the cities of the area. Governors Island is a quick 25 minute drive to the urban areas of Charlotte.
