Downtown Davidson has built a wonderful event and performance schedule that brings much pleasure and enlightenment to the people of Davidson and the surrounding Lake Norman community. Last year, many of our lives were enriched by a broad range of events, performances and related programs - a testament to our committment to tailor such to the interests of diverse audiences here in Davidson. Christmas in Davidson, Concerts-on-the-Green, Art-on-the-Green, April is for Arts, the Croquet Tournament all enjoyed tremendous success this past year. This was in part due to the the increasing support from our sponsors and grantors, including the Arts and Science Council and North Carolina Arts Council.
We are committed to preserving the small-town appeal of Davidson by presenting community events and supporting historic preservation with economic development to keep the downtown district prosperous and vital. This is paricularly important as Davidson grows and changes. Lake Davidson is also part of the community which offers sailing and kayaking and small boat activities.
Living in River Run means having access to excellent schools and the casual, friendly atmosphere in Davidson near Lake Norman. The varied cultural, social and sports activities available in the community offer active adults and families a wide range of recreation and entertainment options.
If golf is your game, you will fall in love with the River Run Championship Golf Course, which was designed by master course architect Robert Walker. This challenging par-72 course is beautifully situated on 394 acres, making it a true pleasure to play. Brand new greens installed summer/fall 2007. Course to re-open April 2008.
After playing 18 holes, relax in the River Run clubhouse. Home to the gourmet Rotunda Dining Room with its Jeffersonian-style rotunda rising 43 feet to the domed ceiling, the clubhouse overlooks the 18th fairway and waterfall.
Residents enjoy the Tennis, Swim and Fitness Center, which includes nine competition Har-Tru courts, three competition hard surface courts and four indoor courts. The facility houses a Fitness Center, snack bar and qualified child care to allow parents to participate in club-related activities. There is nothing like gathering at the pool with friends and family on a hot summer day. A new lazy river and Waterslide complex was added in 2007 in addition to the community's two existing pools, playground and picnic area. Summer camps and instruction in tennis, golf and swimming are available to residents as well. The Town of Davidson also boasts a summer program at its Lake Campus for children of all ages.
Perhaps a leisurely walk is more your style. Walking trails wind through the wooded landscape and wide sidewalks lead you through the tree-lined neighborhood. River Run is also "connected " to Davidson by a 2 1/2 mile walking/bicycle path leading from a secondary entrance in River Run straight to the center of Davidson.
